CCA to expand existing reef in Big Lake

Via Louisiana Sportsman

Another 2,000 tons of limestone and crushed concrete will be added adjacent to the existing Brad Vincent Reef in Big Lake this May, expanding the original 6-acre site by an additional 3 to 4 acres.

It will mark the Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana’s 23rd reef along the coast in recent years, and the new larger footprint is expected to provide additional opportunities for area anglers.

This will be the first enhancement to the original Vincent Reef, which was constructed by CCA and partners in 2012 in memory of Lake Charles area conservationist Brad Vincent. Its central location in Calcasieu Lake makes it easily reachable from numerous marinas and landings in the area.

Funding for the project will be provided through CCA’s Building Conservation Trust, Phillips 66 Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex and LDWF‘s Artificial Reef Development Fund. In-kind materials and services will be provided by DLS Energy, and continued support of CCA Louisiana’s habitat program is provided by the Paul Candies Family.
